News Israeli theater company cancels shows in Turkey Facebook Twitter Email SMS WhatsApp Share By J. Correspondent | May 27, 2011 An Israeli theater company canceled performances in Turkey after learning of threats that would interrupt the show and harm the actors. The Cameri Theater called off two performances over the weekend after the threats were disclosed to the Israeli Embassy. The theater company had arrived in Turkey and the stage was prepared for the performance when the company canceled after the head security officer of the Israeli Embassy in Turkey said he could not guarantee the security of the Israeli actors and theater staff. Anti-Israel groups had threatened to wave flags, protest, throw objects onto the stage and physically harm the actors, the daily Ha’aretz reported. Some 35 tickets reportedly were purchased by people who had never attended the theater. Cameri was in Turkey to participate in an international theater festival hosted by Turkey’s national theater. — jta J. Correspondent Also On J.
