On Sunday, August 28, 2011 Julian Weidler will celebrate his 100th birthday.

Weidler provided jobs to over 700 Napans during the height of the Great Depression, and gave George Altamura his first job pressing pants at Rough Rider. Julian Weidler, known as the “King of Volunteers,” devoted his entire life to bettering the Napa Community he loves, and the entire Napa Community is invited to celebrate Julian Weidler’s life as he nears the century mark.

To list all the organizations he headed or was committed to would take a full page, but here are a few that provide a glimpse into his incredible contributions: President of Rough Riders, foreman of the Napa County Grand Jury (1968), past president of the Kiwanis Club, Chairman of the College Preparatory Study Committee, past president of the Queen of the Valley Hospital Foundation, past president of the Napa Valley College Foundation, president of the Napa Chamber of Commerce, KVON Citizen of the Year (1976), past president of the Napa Valley Economic Development Corporation, SCORE Counselor, Founder of Congregation Beth Shalom, and much, much more.

Join friends and neighbors in honoring Julian Weidler on Aug. 28 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Congregation Beth Shalom at 1455 Elm St. There will be live music, refreshments and an opportunity to meet this great man.
