Google street view OKd for Israel

The Google street view map service will add three cities in Israel now that it has received permission from the country’s Justice Ministry.
The online mapping tool, which provides 3-D view of buildings, landmarks and streets in 27 countries, has come under fire from privacy advocates.
The Israeli Justice Ministry’s Law, Information and Technology Authority has set several conditions, including the right for residents to request further blurring of residences and license plates.

Israeli officials had been concerned the service would be used by terrorists to plan attacks in Israel. Google reportedly plans to photograph only Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Haifa. — jta
