Security around Israel’s embassy in Amman, Jordan reportedly has been increased following the Sept. 9 mob attack on Israel’s embassy in Cairo.
More security forces and armored vehicles have been seen on the main roads leading to the embassy in Amman, according to Arab reports cited in the Israeli media.
The increased security comes amid the establishment of a Facebook page calling for Jordanians to attend a “million-man protest” in front of the embassy on Sept. 15, the Israel Project and Ynetnews.com reported. Some 1,000 people indicated they were planning to attend the event.
Jordan signed a peace treaty with Israel in 1994, following Egypt in 1979. Jordan’s King Abdullah II is one of Israel’s few remaining close allies in the Muslim world, but even he said this week, “Jordan and the future of Palestine are stronger than Israel. It is the Israelis who are worried today.”
