The Mothers Circle, a national program that provides free education and support to non-Jewish mothers who are raising their children Jewish, is coming to the Peninsula JCC in Foster City beginning Thursday, Nov. 3.
An initiative of the Jewish Outreach Institute, the free six-week class will be led by Rabbi Lavey Derby, director of Jewish life at the PJCC.
“Mothers will discover how to enrich their families’ Jewish experience and deepen their connection to the religion of their husbands and children — and to do so with peers who are facing similar challenges,” Derby said. “It’s an ideal opportunity to learn about Jewish holiday celebrations, rituals, practices and values.”
No prior knowledge of Judaism or Jewish culture is required. Participants will meet two Thursdays a month in November, December and January from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Coffee and tea will be provided; participants are encouraged to bring a bag lunch. The program also includes free childcare.
