Kelman is heading to Stanford University, where he will assume the inaugural Jim Joseph Chair in Education and Jewish Studies. He takes up his new post in January. Ari Y. Kelman Kelman will design and direct the doctoral concentration, which will be integrated with existing programs for the preparation of education scholars. He will also facilitate collaborations between Stanford’s School of Education and its Taube Center for Jewish Studies. “I’m interested in pushing the boundaries of what’s traditionally been the field of Jewish education,” Kelman said, “and infusing that with scholarship in general ed and general studies.” At U.C. Davis, Kelman conducted research into contemporary Jewish life, with an emphasis on media, ethnic identity and American religious culture.
