“Belonging, Behaving, Believing: The Wisdom of Reconstructionist Judaism” will bring Reconstructionists from around Northern California together March 25 for a day of learning at Or Shalom Jewish Community in San Francisco.
The full day of programming, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., aims to explore how the Reconstructionist understanding of peoplehood affects Jewish life and practice. Workshops will include “The Recognition and Inclusion of LGBTQ Jews” led by Rabbi David Dunn Bauer, founder of the Jewish Queer Sexual Ethics Project; “From Exile to Re-Membering” led by psychologist Shoshana Fershtman, an educator at Cotati’s Congregation Ner Shalom; and “Descent or Consent: Jewish Identity in a Post-Ethnic World” led by Rabbi Jane Litman of Berkeley’s Congregation Beth El.
Cost for the day, including lunch, is $18. A children’s program is available for $10. Child care is by advance reservation; the deadline is Monday, March 19.
