The fourth annual Santa Rosa Walk to End Genocide will raise funds to fight human rights violations around the world. Organized by Santa Rosa’s Congregation Shomrei Torah social action committee and Jewish high school student activist Gabe Ferrick, the three-mile walk takes place the morning of Sunday, April 22.
Proceeds will go to the Los Angeles–based nonprofit Jewish World Watch, which sponsors similar walks in Orange County and San Diego.
Ferrick, 17, won a Diller Teen Tikkun Olam Award last year for raising more than $60,000 in the fight against genocide in Darfur.
In addition, the second annual Bay Area Walk Against Genocide will take place April 29 at Oakland’s Lake Merritt with several Jewish institutions participating, including the Jewish Comm-unity Relations Council, San Francisco’s Congregation Emanu-El and Oakland’s Temple Sinai and Temple Beth Abraham.
