Piano prodigy to play at Shalom Schools 15-year gala

The Shalom School, a Jewish preschool run by Chabad of San Francisco, will celebrate its 15th anniversary on Tuesday, June 5 with a benefit concert and gala at the JCC of San Francisco’s Kanbar Hall. Ten-year-old piano prodigy Ethan Bortnick will perform at the event, which begins at 7:30 p.m.

Sponsorships are available for $250 and up, and include a VIP silent auction, reserved seating, open bar and hors d’oeuvres.

Hilda Langer, founder and director of the Shalom School and co-director of Chabad S.F., said she and her husband, Rabbi Yosef Langer, chose Bortnick (the son of Jewish immigrants from the former Soviet Union) to perform as a celebration of children’s and education. “He and his parents are exemplars of nurturing talent and seeing it flower,” she said.

The JCCSF is located at 3200 California St. Tickets start at $36. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit www.tinyurl.com/ShalomSchoolBenefit or call the JCC box office at (415) 292-1233.
