Correspondent | June 1, 2012 The Shalom School, a Jewish preschool run by Chabad of San Francisco, will celebrate its 15th anniversary on Tuesday, June 5 with a benefit concert and gala at the JCC of San Francisco’s Kanbar Hall. Ten-year-old piano prodigy Ethan Bortnick will perform at the event, which begins at 7:30 p.m. Sponsorships are available for $250 and up, and include a VIP silent auction, reserved seating, open bar and hors d’oeuvres. Hilda Langer, founder and director of the Shalom School and co-director of Chabad S.F., said she and her husband, Rabbi Yosef Langer, chose Bortnick (the son of Jewish immigrants from the former Soviet Union) to perform as a celebration of children’s and education. “He and his parents are exemplars of nurturing talent and seeing it flower,” she said.
