News Deal reached on Ulpana evacuation Facebook Twitter Email SMS WhatsApp Share By J. Correspondent | June 22, 2012 Residents of the Ulpana neighborhood in the West Bank settlement of Beit El have accepted the government’s terms for their eviction. According to the June 19 agreement, the residents will leave their homes within a week. In exchange for their peaceful cooperation, the government will promote the construction of 300 new housing units in Beit El, and the five houses in question will be moved to another location in the settlement. The agreement is still pending court approval, but many in the political arena were quick to congratulate both sides on reaching a deal. Israel’s Supreme Court ruled in September that at least five apartment buildings in the neighborhood bordering Beit El should be razed, siding with a lawsuit filed by Palestinians who said they owned the land. A deadline of July 1 was set for the evacuation. — ynetnews.com J. Correspondent Also On J.
