More than 600 rabbis joined a campaign initiative called Rabbis for Obama.
Obama for America announced the initiative Aug. 21 to “engage and mobilize grassroots supporters.”
The rabbis represent themselves and not individual synagogues or organizations, according to the news release. The names of all the rabbis can be found at barackobama.com/rabbis. Most are Reform or Conservative, although a handful are Orthodox.
“This list of rabbis represents a broad group of respected Jewish leaders from all parts of the country,” Ira Forman, the Obama campaign’s Jewish outreach director, said in a news release.
The number of rabbis signing on is more than double the number who added their names to President Obama’s 2008 campaign at the launch of a similar effort then. — jta
