StandWithUs announced last week it will counter recent anti-Israel ads by placing pro-Israel ads on 12 Muni buses in San Francisco from Monday, Oct. 22 through Nov. 18.

SWU said it has designed two ads to counter a recently concluded ad campaign on Muni buses that featured maps “that distort facts.” The ad read “4.7 million Palestinians are classified by the U.N. as refugees” and showed a series of maps titled “Palestinian loss of land — 1946 to 2010.”

Anti-Israel ad that StandWithUs is countering

In a press release, SWU noted that it “has countered anti-Israel billboard campaigns wherever they’ve appeared.” The upcoming campaign will be the fifth time the organization has placed posters in 2011-12 as a response to anti-Israel billboards in San Francisco and Berkeley BART stations and on Muni buses.

“We cannot allow the public to be misled by the factual distortions in yet another anti-Israel campaign,” said Roz Rothstein, CEO of the 11-year-old, Los Angeles–based StandWithUs. “These ad campaigns try to undermine American support for Israel by misrepresenting Israel and its history.”

One SWU ad will underscore how the U.S.-Israel alliance benefits the U.S. economy by noting that “Israelis invested over $57 billion in U.S. companies and created 200,000 jobs in the U.S. between 2000 and 2010.” Another will encourage the public to contact lawmakers: “Tell Congress not to support Palestinian groups like Hamas because they don’t want peace.”
