Women are still woefully under-represented in the upper echelons of Jewish communal list and make much less money than their male counterparts.
That’s according to the fourth annual salary survey of Jewish nonprofits, whose 2011 results were released Dec. 10. The report shows just 10 of the top 75 Jewish professionals are women, and they make an average of 66 cents to every dollar earned by their male peers.
The highest-paid female Jewish professional is Janice Weinman, hired in April as executive director and CEO of Hadassah. Her $410,000 salary pales before the $879,821 earned by Yeshiva University President Richard Joel, whose earnings top the chart as they did in 2010.
S.F.-based Jewish Community Fed-eration CEO Jennifer Gorovitz, still the only woman to head a major Jewish federation in the United States, is the second-highest-paid woman on the list, making $305,275 in 2011 according to the report ($275 more than in 2010, less than a 1 percent raise).
Several of the highest-paid male executives received hefty raises in 2011, including ADL’s national director, Abraham Foxman, whose 10.75 percent raise bumped his salary to $688,280. Wayne Firestone, who recently announced he is stepping down as president of Hillel, saw his 2011 salary drop by 11 percent to $308,158.
