On the Mark Mentoring, a program of S.F.-based Jewish Family and Children’s Services, matches young people ages 8 to 18 with a caring adult or high school student for fun, educational experiences.
Once mentors are recruited, screened and trained, they make a minimum commitment to volunteer for six months and receive ongoing support and training during the school year.
Mentor and student meet at least once a week for an hour at the JFCS Teen Space in San Francisco or another agreed-upon venue. Activities may range from a visit to a museum or library to a walk on the beach or an outing to a concert.
Mentors offer support and encouragement while building trust and friendship with their young partner.
