The Contemporary Jewish Museum has issued an invitation to the community to attend a free day at the museum to welcome Lori Starr, its new executive director.

There will be free admission all day on June 9, when the museum’s hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event also will commemorate the five-year anniversary of the CJM’s grand opening of its current site on June 8, 2008.

From 2009, a monthly mixer called “Oy Vey! Thursdays”

From noon to 3 p.m., there will be entertainment, magic, arts and crafts, music and dancing, food and drink. Performers include the AXIS Dance Company, the Conspiracy of Beards (an a cappella men’s choir that performs Leonard Cohen songs exclusively), True Life Trio (a Bulgarian women’s choir) and the Porto Franco Klezmer All-Stars band.

In addition, there will be a reading by San Francisco poet laureate Alejandro Murguía and remarks by state Sen. Mark Leno on Jessie Square in front of the museum.
