Love is in the air

Once considered a minor holiday, Tu B’Av is making a comeback in Bay Area Jewish life. A number of synagogues and community centers are holding services and events to celebrate the Jewish holiday of love, from live music and dancing to outdoor oneg Shabbats.

“Friday at the Midrahov.” Celebrate Tu B’Av, the Jewish holiday of love, with an Israeli-style Kabbalat Shabbat, followed by a jazz concert, book sale and children’s activities. At Oshman Family JCC, 3921 Fabian Way, Palo Alto. 4 to 7 p.m. Free.

“Tu B’Av Under the Trees.” Outdoor oneg Shabbat with singing, dancing, wine and chocolate to celebrate the holiday of love. At Congregation Beth Am, 26790 Arastradero Road, Los Altos Hills. 6:15 p.m. Free.


Tu B’Av celebration. A night of music and dancing to celebrate the Jewish holiday of love. At JCC of the East Bay, 1414 Walnut St., Berkeley. For 21 and older. 7 p.m. Free.


“HUBad SoMa Shul.” Chabad of S.F. happy hour followed by Shabbat services and dinner. 5 p.m. Free, dinner $20. Also July 27 morning services followed by lunch. 9:45 a.m. Lunch $20 suggested. At S.F. School of Digital Filmmaking, 925 Mission St., Suite 108, S.F.
