More than 100 kids at the Peninsula JCC’s Camp Keff were happily surprised last week when counselor Thomas Schultz wrapped up a morning song session by dropping to a knee and popping the question to Megan Hansen, a fellow counselor he’d met at the camp last summer.

“I’m not a person that could really be cutesy with a hot-air balloon or something like that, but working at the camp is something that I love doing and it’s where we met,” Schultz told j. “It was something that connected us both.”

Schultz, 24, and Hansen, 20, who are not Jewish, plan to get married in two years once they graduate from San Francisco State University. Schultz has worked at the PJCC camp since he graduated high school, and now he also works in the center’s after-school program during the school year.
