Jewish Family and Children’s Services of the East Bay has scheduled its seventh annual Art of Living fundraiser for Oct. 6, with special guest Theodore Bikel.
The 89-year-old actor, singer and storyteller — who has starred on stage as Tevye in “Fiddler on the Roof” more than 2,000 times over the last 45 years — is scheduled to perform with Cantor Roslyn Barak of Congre-gation Emanu-El in San Francisco.
Bikel made his film debut in “The African Queen” in 1951 and was nominated for an Academy Award for best supporting actor for his role as a sheriff in “The Defiant Ones” in 1958.
The gala, in celebration of JFCS/East Bay’s
136 years of serving the community, is scheduled for 6 p.m. Oct. 6 at the Oakland Museum of California, 1000 Oak St. Ticket prices range from $75 for guests under 35 to $300 for regular admission plus a private reception with Bikel at 4:30 p.m. There will also be a raffle.
