The third season of the American drama-thriller Showtime series “Homeland,” which was scheduled to be filmed in Israel next month, will be shot in Morocco instead due to security concerns over the crisis in Syria.
The American producers of the hit show, which is inspired by the Israeli show “Hatufim” (“Prisoners of War”), informed the Israeli producers of their decision on Sept. 14.
“We were already getting organized, we even received scripts, and in the end we were told that the shooting had been moved. It’s frustrating,” said an Israeli source with knowledge of the details.
According to estimates, the change in location cost the Israeli production company hundreds of thousands of shekels.
The American producers announced during a press conference two months ago that parts of the third season would be shot in the Jewish state. Parts of the first and second seasons also were filmed in Israel. One location was the village of Barta’a beyond the Green Line, but this time the Israeli producers had planned to shoot in the Tel Aviv area.
The decision to shoot in Morocco is not surprising, as “Homeland” creators Howard Gordon and Israeli director-scriptwriter Gideon Raff are working on a new series called “Tyrant,” which also will be filmed in the North African country. — ynetnews.com
