Ofer Nov’s photo of a thousand-year-old olive tree in the Galilee
Moshe Kassirer’s oil painting, “October,” shows olive trees during harvest.

“Rootedness,” an exhibit featuring two Israeli artists who capture Israel’s olive trees in photographs and paintings, is on exhibit through Dec. 28 at the Peninsula JCC in Foster City.

The show features oil paintings by Moshe Kassirer and photographs by Ofer Nov. Both artists, who reside in Israel’s rich olive region of the Galilee, say the majestic landscape has greatly impacted their work.

“My paintings relate to the simplicity of man, the naiveté of life, and the beauty of natural landscapes, which are rapidly vanishing from the world,” Kassirer said in a statement.

Nov spent several years working the olive harvest, which gave the photographer an appreciation for the oil extraction process. “When I take photos, I try to be very direct,” Nov said. “I try to bring the real, true picture to the viewers. I love what I do.”

“Rootedness” is on display during regular hours at the Peninsula JCC, 800 Foster City Blvd., Foster City. For information, visit www.pjcc.org or phone (650) 212-7522.
