Deaths

Jacqueline Bandel

 April 3, 1932–Nov. 15, 2014

Jacqueline Bandel died Nov. 15, surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Jacqueline grew up in Piedmont, where she married and had four children. After her undergraduate education at U.C. Berkeley, she was an editor and a freelance reporter for Bay Area newspapers on social and political issues, while rearing her children.

Intelligent, spirited, independent, and creative, she employed these qualities to publish a book of children’s poetry, “In and Out the Window,” and to bring poetry to life for elementary school students through her interactive poetry program. She had a deep passion for the fine arts, especially opera and ballet.

She was a dedicated and loving mother and grandmother who inspired her family with her creativity, humor and wisdom. Jacqueline is survived by her four children, Todd, Sandra, Scott and Jay; her seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A celebration of her life will be held at the Claremont Hotel, in the Empire Room, on Sunday, Nov. 23 at 2 p.m.

Donations in her honor can be made to Ashby Village, www.ashbyvillage.org.
