JIMENA and Reboot are getting ready to host “Our Stories,” a storytelling showcase at which young adults will share a diverse array of Jewish experiences.
Subtitled “A Showcase of Jewish Pluralism,” the event is from 7 to 10 p.m. June 22 at the Elbo Room, 647 Valencia St., S.F. Tickets are $7, which includes a drink.
The event also will feature Six Word Memoirs on Jewish Life, a collaborative project by Smith Magazine and Reboot. Also, attendees can participate in JIMENA’s digital experience booth.
Based in San Francisco, JIMENA stands for Jews Indigenous to the Middle East and North Africa. Among other efforts, the agency encourages people of Mizrahi and Sephardi descent to share their stories.
The event is co-sponsored by Be’chol Lashon, Keshet and Moishe House San Francisco.
“While we all may be Jewish, there are certain experiences and traditions that make our families unique,” said Analucia Lopezrevoredo, JIMENA’s program director. “Rather than assimilate into mainstream culture, this program urges participants to celebrate and honor the various journeys our families have taken.”
