Rabbis letter supporting Iran deal includes 35 from Northern California Facebook Twitter Email SMS WhatsApp Share By J. Correspondent | August 21, 2015 Some 340 rabbis across the country have signed a letter urging members of Congress to support the Iran nuclear deal. Thirty-five of the signers are from Northern California, mostly from the Bay Area. “As rabbis, we support the agreement between the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Russia and Iran — the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action,” the letter begins. “We encourage the members of the Senate and House of Representatives to endorse this agreement.” The letter, which is sponsored by the progressive Zionist advocacy organization Ameinu, responds to the ongoing conversation around whether and to what extent American Jews and leaders of the American Jewish community support the July agreement between Iran, the United States, Germany and the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council. It was sent Aug. 17. “Most especially, we are deeply concerned with the impression that the leadership of the American Jewish community is united in opposition to the agreement,” the letter says, before concluding, “We, along with many other Jewish leaders, fully support this historic nuclear accord.” The full text of the letter, as well as the list of rabbis who signed it, can be read at www.tinyurl.com/oua6b9n. Among the local rabbis who signed are Lawrence Kushner, Samuel Broude, Stuart Kelman, Martin Weiner, Melanie Aron, David Cooper, Dan Goldblatt and Michael Lerner. J. Correspondent Also On J.
