American nonprofits donated more than $220 million to West Bank settlements from 2009 to 2013, according to a Haaretz investigation.
The report, published in the daily paper on Dec. 7, found that some 50 American organizations gave tax-deductible donations to the settlements. The money went to pay for property, home amenities and, in some cases, support to families of convicted Jewish terrorists.
The organizations named by Haaretz include Honenu, which provided the support to the terrorists’ families; the Central Fund of Israel, which supports settlement institutions; and the Hebron Fund, which finances projects in the settler enclave in Hebron.
Donations made by private individuals to the NGOs are tax-deductible, although the U.S. government considers the settlements illegal. — jta
