A new program promises to help students better understand the Holocaust and its impact on victims.
IWitness-CIJE Jewish Day School initiative is a joint project of the New York-based Center for Initiatives in Jewish Education and the University of Southern California’s Shoah Foundation — the Institute for Visual History and Education.
Launched at a Nov. 16 conference in New York, IWitness provides Internet access to 1,467 life histories, testimonies of survivors and witnesses to the Holocaust and other genocides. These are integrated into student-centered activities that can be used by teachers across multiple disciplines to encourage critical thinking and self-reflection.
