Charlotte Oppenheim

A memorial for Charlotte Oppenheim will be held on Sunday, Feb. 14 at 1 p.m. at the JCC East Bay, 1414 Walnut St. in Berkeley, CA. Born in Germany into a Jewish family, she fled to New York in the 1930s, later settling in San Francisco. A long marriage with George Oppenheim followed until his death in 1989. She was an interpreter and researcher for the U.S. Dept. of War Information during WWII in London and Paris, active in the Democratic Party, voted Volunteer of the Year by the East Bay/Richmond JCC, and active at the North Berkeley Senior Center, running the gift shop there well into her 90s. She is survived by Henry Oppenheim, Marc and Laurent Oppenheim, Madeline Prager, Lee Shilman, Suzy Locke, and countless cousins and friends.
