From the article “Banks Here Are Queried On Arab Boycott Policy”

All banks in this area are being asked by the Jewish community whether they accept Arab boycott provisions in the letters of credit they negotiate. The question is being put directly by the Jewish Community Relations Council of San Francisco, Marin and the Peninsula.

A full canvas of banks is being made at this time because two locally based bands — the Bank of America and Wells Fargo — have been publicly named by the A.D.L. as among those which do submit to the Arab boycott in the matter of letters of credit. However, according to the JCRC: “There is widespread belief that a much larger number of local banks may engage in the same practice. This information should be available to bank customers. We will let the public know which banks admit to these practices, which banks reject such practices, and which banks refuse to share that information.”

From the article “Daly City movie complex helps Israel with JNF promotion”

For a while, at least, you can go to the movies and help Israel at the same time — at the American Multi-Cinema’s Serramonte 6 complex in Daly City.

The theater is showing The Delta Force, the latest release from the Cannon Group, a film shot entirely on location in Israel.

To help Israel, the Serramonte 6 manager, Barry Brann, arranged to have the Jewish National Fund’s Blue Boxes placed at the complex so people seeing any of the six movies there can contribute money for trees to be planted in the Jewish state.

For the promotion on The Delta Force, Brann began thinking about the movie in general, an adventure about the rescue of some hostages hijacked by Arab terrorists. The rescue is led by Chuck Norris, with help from the Delta Force, a semi-secret U.S. military unit.

Remembering that trees had been planted in his family’s honor when he was growing up, Brann called the San Francisco office of JNF “and got posters and brochures.” He also secured a eucalyptus tree, which now is in the theater’s lobby — “to dress up the promotion.”

“I think it’s a very good idea that people can see the beauty of the land of Israel [in the film] and what great achievements have been carried out in its short history.”
