Former University of California President Mark Yudof has received Hillel International’s 2016 Maimonides Award to honor his academic career and his work to fight campus anti-Semitism and BDS (boycott, divestment and sanctions against Israel).

He was honored May 18 at Hillel’s annual Renaissance Gala in New York.

The award is presented annually to a university leader whose “dedication to higher education has promoted a deep commitment to devotion to the community and Jewish and secular learning.”

Yudof, U.C. president from 2008 to 2013, now chairs the advisory board of the Academic Engagement Network, through which 200 professors and administrators at 100 colleges oppose BDS and support free speech. He is a board member of the Israel Institute, the University of Haifa and the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology.
