Last spring, Emma Contini Franklin and George Winsor Stubbs left their jobs in Massachusetts and set off on the Pacific Crest Trail, hiking from the border of Mexico to the border of Canada. At mile 1,515 they got engaged, and by mile 2,650.1, they still thought it was a great idea.
Emma is the daughter of former J. publisher Nora Contini and John Franklin of San Rafael, California. George is the son of Caroline Quillian Stubbs and John Stubbs of Atlanta, Georgia. They were married on Saturday, June 11, in Nicasio, California, in the backyard of Emma’s aunt and uncle’s home. John Stubbs (brother of George) officiated. It was a fantastic day full of lots of talking, outdoor games, some square dancing and general merriment.
George graduated from Harvard College in 2011 with a concentration in organizational behavior. Emma graduated Harvard College a year later in 2012 with a concentration in neurobiology. They met through leading outdoor orientation trips.
After several years of working in Boston and going on their big hike, the two settled in the Bay Area. Emma now works at CircleUp in San Francisco as part of a small corporate development team. George just joined the Trium Group, a management consulting firm focused on leadership development
The couple “honeymooned” at their small fixer-upper houseboat in Sausalito, making repairs and remodeling with the eager participation of extended family members.
