Awe? Yeah! The JCC of the East Bay is kicking off a Days of Awe series with a three-part class focusing on High Holy Day piyyutim (devotional songs) based on medieval Spanish poetry. Singer and ethnomusicologist Jewlia Eisenberg will explore the music, lyrics and sometimes salacious roots of these songs for three consecutive Thursdays. And yes, there will be singing! The series includes six other programs with multiple meetings.

Renowned Israeli composer-pianist Yaron Bahar will be joined onstage by his son, Eden, a drummer, for an energetic performance of works from “Classical Storm,” their debut album together. They’ll play original takes on music by Bach, Mozart and Vivaldi, plus popular Israeli songs by Yehudit Ravitz and Boaz Sharabi. $75 ticket include $20 donation to nonprofit Cancer CAREpoint.
