The Peninsula Jewish Community Center in Foster City will present “Pink Ribbon at the PJCC,” a daylong series of activities and events to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This year’s event, on Sunday, Oct. 23, features a keynote panel that will address the BRCA1 and BRCA2 gene mutations, which disproportionately affect the Jewish community.

Moderated by Gail Fisher, deputy director of the San Francisco-based BRCA Foundation, the panel includes Dr. Pamela Munster of UCSF; Dr. Allison Kurian of Stanford University; genetics counselor Lauren Ryan; Emily Kaplan, a two-time BRCA survivor, and Amy Byer Shainman, producer of the documentary “Pink & Blue: Colors of Hereditary Cancer.”

In addition to the panel, attendees can participate in group exercise workouts (fee and registration required) and receive confidential genetic testing with a Color Genomics genetic counselor (fee: $249).

Pink Ribbon at the PJCC is a private small-group post-rehabilitation exercise protocol open to breast cancer survivors. Other participating organizations include Bay Area Cancer Connections, BRCA Foundation, CanCan Health, Color Genomics, Kaiser Permanente, Mills-Peninsula Health Services and Sharsheret, a New Jersey-based Jewish nonprofit organization that supports breast cancer survivors.
