Bay Area singers Achi Ben Shalom and Noa Levy will perform at a community event honoring the legacy of former Israeli prime minister and president Shimon Peres that also will include short videos on the life of the Nobel Peace Prize winner.

The Nov. 1 memorial service at Congregation Emanu-El in San Francisco also will include remarks by Israeli Consul General Andy David and San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee. Admission is free, though registration is required at congregationemanuel.magentrix.com.

The event also is being hosted by the S.F.-based Jewish Community Federation, the Jewish Federation of the East Bay, the Jewish Community Relations Council and the Consulate.

Emanu-El’s rabbis and cantors will lead memorial prayers for Peres, who died in late September at the age of 93. Ben Shalom and Levy will perform some of his favorite songs.

Peres, who retired as president of Israel in 2014 after more than half a century in public life, was described by the Times of Israel as “the elder statesman of Israeli politics, one of the country’s most admired symbols and the last surviving link to its founding fathers.”
