Staff | March 14, 2017 Who needs “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” when you’ve got “Jews with Bats”? The latter would be a musical shoutout from Jewish rapper Kosha Dillz’s to the Israeli team that is defying the odds with its 4-1 record in the ongoing World Baseball Classic competition. In a last-minute switch to his song list at the South by Southwest music and media festival in Austin, Texas, last night (March 13), Dillz sang “Jews With Bats,” his hilarious upbeat ode to Israel’s team. “We swingin’ for the fences from the bench, with the mensches, celebratin’ independence,” raps Dillz, who spices up his YouTube video with clips of the looser kids’ baseball team from the classic 1976 film “Bad News Bears.” Team Israel upended it’s bottom ranking going into the competition by beating South Korea, Taiwan, the Netherlands, and even Cuba before suffering a defeat in a rematch with the Netherlands Monday. After his run at the Austin festival, Dillz will continue on a tour that brings him to the Bay Area later this month. He is set to perform March 27 at the Catalyst in Santa Cruz, March 29 at the Cypher in San Jose and March 30 at the Hotel Utah in San Francisco. Dillz — born Rami Matan Even-Esh in New Jersey (his parents are Israeli Americans) — recently returned from a tour in Israel.
