Staff | May 5, 2017 Nominations are now being accepted for the 2017 Anne and Robert Cowan Writers Award, which honors Bay Area writers who have made an exceptional contribution to literary arts through a uniquely Jewish perspective. The award, which includes a grant of $5,000, is run by the S.F.-based Jewish Community Federation. Previous winners include Michael David Lukas and Julie Orringer. Nominees must be emerging writers who have published a work — a novel, short story, creative nonfiction, memoir, graphic novel or another hybrid form. The Cowan Award is based on a writer’s entire body of work, including work in progress, rather than on a specific book. Submission deadline for nominations is May 15.
