Cherney | June 30, 2017 The Atlanta Braves have signed Stanford junior Keith Weisenberg, a pitcher, for a $125,000 bonus and assigned him to the Danville Braves in the Appalachian League, the Atlanta Jewish Times reports. “I literally could not be happier to be joining the Braves organization,” Weisenberg told The Mercury News. “I’m really thankful for everything Stanford has done for me in preparing me for the next chapter in life.” The right-handed pitcher was the second of 11 Jewish players in the 40-round Major League Baseball draft in mid-June. Hailing from St. Petersburg, Florida, Weisenberg, 21, majored in Science, Technology and Society at Stanford. As a junior he was 1-0, with a 4.22 ERA and 19 strikeouts. Overall at Stanford Weisenberg struck out 30, with a 7.13 ERA. The Toronto Blue Jays drafted Weisenberg in the 38th round out of Osceola High School in 2014. Max A. Cherney Max A.
