$180k from Taube for University of Haifa humanities scholarships

A $180,000 grant from Taube Philanthropies will provide scholarships for incoming students at the University of Haifa, which serves more than 18,000 students from Israel and around the world.

The three-year commitment from the Belmont-based charity will support students in academic disciplines that examine aspects of human society. The Taube Fund for Scholars in the Humanities will be launched by the American Society of the University of Haifa.

More than 1,100 of the university’s 9,000 undergrads are enrolled in a degree program within the humanities.

“Taube Scholars will be the next generation of entrepreneurs, academics, journalists, teachers, political scientists, historians and community leaders that will build and secure the future of Israel,” said Karen Berman, CEO of the American Society of the University of Haifa.
