Staff | January 9, 2019 Cantors Jonathan Friedmann and Deborah Davis will be among the featured speakers in a weekend conference focusing on Jewish musical history and songs at the J-West gathering of Cultural, Humanist and Secular Jews. The Jan. 18-20 conference, hosted by Tri-Valley Cultural Jews and the International Institute for Secular Humanistic Judaism, will be held at the La Quinta Inn in Hayward. Friedmann, a professor of Jewish music history, will give the keynote speech on “Beyond Klezmer” and also will lead a session on Mizrachi music.
