More than 40 programs and services are provided through this San Francisco-based organization, including adoption help, LGBTQ support, senior and end-of-life counseling, and assistance to émigrés, Holocaust survivors, people with disabilities and families in crisis. The organization also serves the North Bay and the Peninsula, providing compassionate care to children, families and older adults facing transitions and personal crises.



Hebrew Free Loan

Since its 1897 inception, Hebrew Free Loan has provided help to many with interest-free loans: immigrants, adopting couples, first-time homebuyers, families facing emergencies, students and small business owners; an incredible 99.5% of the loans have been repaid. In addition to serving the Jewish community, the agency offers loans, on a nonsectarian basis, to college students from low-income families.

This important agency represents the broader Jewish community on issues of vital importance based on consensus of the synagogues and Jewish organizations in the Bay Area. Acting on behalf of the community, the JCRC speaks up, takes action and puts basic Jewish values to work to make a difference in the world. With origins in 1938, this vital watchdog organization was created to respond to the growing plight of European Jewry and the need for local advocacy.



Shalom Bayit

Originally created in 1992 as a task force, in 2000 Shalom Bayit became a full-fledged non-profit agency in its own right. It is Northern California’s first and only Jewish agency dedicated to eradicating domestic violence, and it provides confidential peer counseling, support, information, referrals, and advocacy to Jewish women who have experienced abuse in the home. Based in Oakland with offices on the Peninsula, the agency serves the entire region and provides abuse-prevention and healthy-relationship workshops.

JFCS East Bay provides social services to East Bay individuals, families, children, older adults, Holocaust survivors and refugees. “Compassion in action, commitment to all” is its mission, and every day, paid staff and numerous volunteers take on the mantle of that mission, bringing help and hope to the many they serve.
