SAN FRANCISCO

JCC of San Francisco

(415) 292-1200 • jccsf.org

The pool is open! Such a happily received statement, as one JCCSF member said. Covid took its toll on every fitness center, and the JCCSF was no exception.  Now that they are able to move back to traditional in- person classes, some have remained online in addition to in person. Lectures and events are happening, too. JCCSF has been on the J. Readers’ Choice list for about as long as it’s been going. Founded in 1877, the JCC has served 75,000 people annually.

EAST BAY

CCJCC/Under One Tent

(925) 322-0958 • underonetent.org

Even during this challenging time of Covid “pulling in,” Under one Tent began Young Families’ Programming, which features a select number of in-person, family-focused, mostly outdoor events. The CCJCC sees themselves themselves as the one stop for Jewish culture in Contra Costa and the Tri-Valley, and Under One Tent is the community-wide programming arm of the Contra Costa Jewish Community Center. Another new series, We Are the Jews, celebrates the vibrancy and wonderful diversity of the global Jewish community through the lens of music, food, history, ritual, society and film.

The JCC East Bay always strives for excellence with affordability. Since becoming the recipient of a large grant a few years ago, the JCC East Bay has been expanding key programs and reaching new audiences. They recently offered a wonderful four-part virtual speaker series, Choosing Justice: Bringing Tikkun Olam Home to our Communities with Rabbi Tirzah Firestone in conversation with 4 different changemakers in the social justice arena. Another recent program, LABA East Bay, bills itself as a laboratory for Jewish culture.  They recently held their first COVID-safe LABAlive! Featured offerings included art, teachings and live music inspired by ancient Jewish texts throughout the JCC site. These programs, along with others and their usual fare of Yiddish conversation, fitness and cultural offerings make the JCC a continuing Readers’ Choice recipient.
