The special guest was Adam Mansbach, a Berkeley resident and a New York Times bestselling author, award-winning novelist, screenwriter and cultural critic, who was in conversation with Manny Yekutiel, a friend and supporter of JFCS East Bay and a lifelong activist with a commitment to social justice. Michael Tate served as emcee and Baymele provided live music. The event was available through livestreaming as well. Rabbi Judy Shanks, rabbi emerita of Temple Isaiah in Lafayette, was honored as the first Bay Area rabbi to shine a light on domestic violence from the bimah. Journalist Rachel Louise Snyder was in conversation with Shalom Bayit’s founding executive director Naomi Tucker, and Vocolot provided beautiful music. Rather than a traditional sit-down dinner, this progressive party took place across the OFJCC’s eight-acre campus, with plenty to eat and drink and many memorable and transformative experiences in the lush, fertile garden atmosphere that party planners created. The school’s outdoor party, “Under the Lights,” included dinner, live music and a raffle.
