Jewish Family & Community Services East Bay

(510) 704-7475
On April 24, JFCS East Bay celebrated “Art of Living 2022,” the organization’s 15th annual benefit, at Temple Isaiah in Lafayette. The special guest was Adam Mansbach, a Berkeley resident and a New York Times bestselling author, award-winning novelist, screenwriter and cultural critic, who was in conversation with Manny Yekutiel, a friend and supporter of JFCS East Bay and a lifelong activist with a commitment to social justice. Michael Tate served as emcee and Baymele provided live music. The event was available through livestreaming as well.

Shalom Bayit

(866) 742-5667
On May 6, Shalom Bayit’s gala, “Creating Hope: Shining a Light for 30 Years,” was held at the Hyatt Regency in San Francisco. Rabbi Judy Shanks, rabbi emerita of Temple Isaiah in Lafayette, was honored as the first Bay Area rabbi to shine a light on domestic violence from the bimah. Journalist Rachel Louise Snyder was in conversation with Shalom Bayit’s founding executive director Naomi Tucker, and Vocolot provided beautiful music.

Oshman Family JCC

(650) 223-8700
A festive Purim party set in ancient Persia was the theme of the 2022 annual gala, held at the Oshman Family JCC. Rather than a traditional sit-down dinner, this progressive party took place across the OFJCC’s eight-acre campus, with plenty to eat and drink and many memorable and transformative experiences in the lush, fertile garden atmosphere that party planners created.

Brandeis Marin

(415) 472-1833
“Simcha 22” at Brandeis Marin — a new winner this year in Readers’ Choice — took place May 1 on the Osher Marin JCC campus. The school’s outdoor party, “Under the Lights,” included dinner, live music and a raffle. Two individuals were honored: Rose Barlow, an alumni parent and former board president, and Becky Genet Fenster, an alumna, teacher and trustee.
