Celebrating 55 years in business, Green Apple Books welcomes readers at three locations: Clement Street near Sixth Avenue in the Richmond, Ninth Avenue near Lincoln Way in the Inner Sunset, and Browser Books on Fillmore Street. In addition to many, many books, Green Apple offers a book-of-the-month club, hosts special events and also buys used books when your shelves are overladen.

Walk into Books Inc., and you’re walking into an independently owned and operated bookseller that dates back to the Gold Rush Days in Shasta City in 1851. The founder moved to San Francisco in 1855, and today Books Inc. claims 11 locations in Bay Area. Excellent customer service has been a hallmark of the stores since the early days.

A fixture in Menlo Park since 1955, Kepler’s, which calls itself “an intellectual and cultural hub for the Peninsula,” operates a well-stocked, community-supported bookstore and a nonprofit organization that features rich educational and cultural programming. The goal? “To bring people together around ideas and books, to foster intellectual discourse and civic engagement in the community.” 



Copperfield’s Books

With locations in San Rafael, Santa Rosa, Larkspur and beyond to six other communities in the Bay Area, Copperfield’s sells a wide range of titles and also schedules in-person and online author events. Check out “Copperbox,” a subscription box program with a variety of monthly plans that brings books or puzzles right to your door for children up to age 7.
