Engagements

Emma Goss of Los Altos, and Héber Cruz Berber of Mexico City, were engaged to be married on May 20. The couple, both typewriter collectors and history buffs, got engaged at one of their favorite places to visit: Seattle’s historic Smith Tower, built by the Smiths of Smith Corona Typewriter.

Goss, a Barnard College graduate, is a staff writer for J., a freelance reporter for NBC Bay Area and the young adult program coordinator for the Oshman Family JCC.

Cruz Berber, a U.S. Army veteran, is a Cal Poly San Luis Obispo graduate, a CPA and a senior accountant at a global IT consulting company in Sunnyvale. He is also a California Search and Rescue volunteer.

Goss is the daughter of Valerie Goss of Mountain View, and Cruz Berber is the son of Hilda Berber of Delano, California.

The couple met in 2018 when they were both living in Bakersfield. When Goss relocated from Manhattan to Bakersfield that year to start her first job reporting on television, she formed a Jewish young adult group at the local Temple Beth El, a Reform congregation.

Cruz Berber, who served on the synagogue’s board at the time, joined the young adult group, and the two became friends. The couple began dating in March 2020.

They now live with their three cats in Mountain View.

Births

Lauren and Andrew Benson are delighted to announce the arrival of their son, Miles Henry Benson, born on March 18, 2023. Miles has the good fortune of being born on his great-grandmother Sandy Stein’s birthday and holds his great-grandfather’s name Henry. He is joyfully welcomed by his loving grandparents Anna and Guy Magnus of Gig Harbor, Washington, and Laurie and Mark Benson of Hillsborough, California.

His aunt Ashley Benson, uncle Mat and aunt Lauren Lancaster, uncle Nate and aunt Danielle Lancaster are also thrilled to add a new member to the family.
