In celebration of J.’s 130-year-old archive of articles about our region’s Jewish community, we launched an audio-history project this spring to preserve stories about how people or their families ended up here.

So far, 11 participants have shared their varied and fascinating family histories. Two participants even discovered that they’re related.

J. wants to hear more of your stories and is keeping the line open.

Whether to strike gold, hug a redwood or found a startup, there are endless reasons why people call this area home.

To participate, call us at 415-263-7200 ext. 953 and leave a message by June 15 telling us how you or your family came to live in Northern California.

In the message, be sure to include your full name, including how it is spelled, and how you or your family ended up here. Because we are organizing the project in chronological order, we ask you to include important years in that story. (A ballpark estimate is fine.)

We kindly ask you not to include your phone number in the voicemail itself. To share your contact information, additional details, visuals or your questions, email [email protected].

Even though your message will be recorded via voicemail, just know we’re all ears. Again, call us at 415-263-7200 ext. 953 by June 15.

Thank you for preserving your slice of local Jewish history.

J. covers our community better than any other source and provides news you can't find elsewhere. Support local Jewish journalism and give to J. today. Your donation will help J. survive and thrive!
