Ten Holocaust survivors who live at the Moldaw Family Residences helped observe Holocaust Remembrance Day on April 8 during a Yom HaShoah service at the Palo Alto senior living community.
The survivors, including Helga Newman (top photo) and Liliane Kuhn (left), lit six candles in symbolic honor of the 6 million Jews murdered during the Holocaust. Miki Raver, director of lifestyles services at Moldaw, assists in the top photo.
Some of the survivors told their stories. Zdenka Levy, 87, who lost 11 family members in the Holocaust, talked of her nearly two years in a concentration camp. Al Kuhn (above left) also spoke; he and his wife, Liliane, are both survivors, and they still use a 70-year-old dish towel one of their mothers used during the Holocaust.
“I cannot forget what happened,” Kuhn said. “I can never forgive.”
