The JCC of San Francisco has planned an ambitious six-part series this fall that will feature an array of award-winning, big-name chefs and winemakers.
The bulk of the “Food for Thought” series will take place in late October through mid-November, with one additional event on Dec. 18.
The series gets underway Oct. 27 with a talk by French-born chef Daniel Boulud, who has restaurants around the world in cities such as Miami, Montreal, London and Beijing. He is best known for his flagship restaurant, Daniel, a Michelin three-star restaurant in Manhattan.
On Oct. 30, “Reinventing California Cuisine” will include San Francisco chefs Daniel Patterson of Coi and David Kinch of Manresa. Patterson is the author of “Coi: Stories and Recipes,” and Kinch is just out with his debut cookbook, “Manresa: An Edible Reflection.”
On Nov. 6, the subject will turn to California wine. Jon Bonné, the San Francisco Chronicle’s wine editor, will interview “new generation” winemakers David Hirsch of Hirsch Vineyards and Steve Matthiasson of Matthiasson Wines. They will discuss their techniques as well as give the audience a chance to taste their products.
On Nov. 12, former Chez Panisse chef David Tanis, now an advocate for the home chef and author of the weekly “City Kitchen” column for the New York Times, will be in conversation with Davia Nelson of NPR’s “The Kitchen Sisters.” Tanis’ latest book is “One Good Dish: The Pleasures of a Simple Meal.”
On Nov. 18, author and chef Joyce Goldstein will be talking about her latest book, “Inside the California Food Revolution: Thirty Years That Changed Our Culinary Consciousness,” with food writer Patricia Unterman. Goldstein was the
chef-owner of the groundbreaking San Francisco restaurant Square One, and has had a long career in the food industry as a teacher, chef, consultant and author.
The series will conclude Dec. 18 with Alice Waters, owner of Chez Panisse in Berkeley, talking about how to bring seasonal, vegetable-centric meals to the table and her new cookbook, “The Art of Simple Food II: Recipes, Flavor, and Inspiration from the New Kitchen Garden.” She, too, will be in conversation with Nelson of “The Kitchen Sisters.”
All events start at 7 p.m. Tickets are priced between $15 and $35. Visit www.jccsf.org/arts or call (415) 292-1233. All events will be held at the JCCSF, 3200 California St., S.F.
