A handful of young professionals involved with J Street in the Bay Area formed a new group this summer, and a dozen of its members will be heading to Washington, D.C., next week for J Street’s fourth annual national conference.
The Bay Area group is called 21 J Street, a takeoff on the old television series “21 Jump Street.” According to organizers, it’s designed to bring together young adults who support J Street’s agenda, and have them take political action in support of it.
The group has held events titled “Why Two States? Why Now?” and “Come to the Table: A Shabbat Dinner for Peace.”
“We discussed recent developments surrounding the final-status negotiations … as well as strategies for engaging the Bay Area young adult community to support the two-state solution,” organizer Jeremy Elster said of the dinner.
Coming up on 21 J Street’s local calendar is a Nov. 7 event at which Daniel Kurtzer, the U.S. ambassador to Israel from 2001 to 2005, and Jeremy Ben-Ami, J Street president, will speak. The event will be held in the main sanctuary at Congregation Emanu-El in San Francisco.
