To counter an upcoming boycott of a Target store that sells an Israeli-made kitchen appliance, a Bay Area–based pro-Israel organization will stage a one-day “buycott” of the same product at the same store.
The Bay Area organization QUIT (Queers Undermining Israeli Terror) is planning to protest in front of the Target store at San Francisco’s Metreon because the chain sells SodaStream, the popular Israeli-made home soda maker.
S.F. Voice for Israel will counter with a Sunday, Dec. 1 buycott from 3 to 4 p.m. The group is asking people to go to the store at that time and buy SodaStream products. A spokesman for the group, Dr. Mike Harris, says SodaStream does have a factory across the Green Line, but “employs Palestinian Arabs at Israeli wages and with Israeli-level benefits.”
Harris is also encouraging buycott participants to “walk by the protesters and hold up your purchases — so they can see how they actually caused more sales of SodaStream products that day.”
The Target store being targeted is at 789 Mission St., S.F. For more information, visit www.tinyurl.com/sfv4i-buycott or follow @SFV4I on Twitter.
