Two San Francisco congregations — Emanu-El and Sherith Israel — are inviting community members to participate in a stroll through two Jewish cemeteries.

“Buried Treasures: An ‘Underground’ History Walk” will commemorate the 125th anniversary of the Hills of Eternity and Home of Peace cemeteries in Colma.

Scheduled for 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Nov. 2, the free event will include informational talks, a “scavenger hunt,” points of interest where particpants can get stamps in a “passport,” cemetery maps and presenters dressed as historical figures. “I hope it’s the most fun anybody will ever have in a cemetery,” co-organizer Judi Leff says.

The cemeteries are at 1299 and 1301 El Camino Real in Colma. For more information, visit www.emanuelsf.org/hoehop125 or call Emanu-El’s Leff at (415) 750-7445 or Sherith Israel’s Nancy Sheftel-Gomes at (415) 346-1720 ext. 28.
