Eleven grants totaling more than $550,000 have been handed out through two programs of the S.F.-based Jewish Community Federation.

The grantees were celebrated at an event May 14 at Congregation Beth Am in Los Altos Hills.

The grants came from the South Peninsula Impact Grants Initiative and the South Peninsula Jewish Teen Foundation, marking the first time that the adult IGI committee and the teen philanthropists worked in concert.

The South Peninsula IGI handed out four grants. The largest, $198,000 over three years, went to the Jewish Community Relations Council for an education and advocacy program called TEAM Israel (Training, Education and Ambassador Mobilization for Israel).

Also, the Oshman Family JCC’s Israeli Cultural Connection received $200,000 over three years for its program Israel for REEL, which engages participants in discussion about complex Israeli issues through film. The other two grants, also over three years, were $67,000 to Yom Rishon School, a Russian-language Jewish family education program in Los Altos Hills, and $35,000 to InterfaithFamily for a program that engages interfaith couples.

The teen foundation grants were made to agencies that support the health and wellness of people affected by violence. Seven grantees received between $5,000 and $10,000: the Jewish Agency for Israel, the France Emergency Fund, Shalom Bayit, Swords to Plowshares, Tikva Children’s Home, Turning the Tables and ZAKA.

Applications to join the 2015-16 teen foundations are now being accepted at www.JewishTeenFoundations.org.
