Born in Chrzanow, Poland, and died peacefully at his home in San Francisco.

Charles arrived in America as a Holocaust survivor and refugee. He was liberated from the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp on April 15, 1945 by the British army and emigrated with his wife, Chana (Annie), and young daughter to Stockton, California,

in 1950.

His limited education, poverty and lack of English-language skills did not stop him from becoming a successful businessman, an astute entrepreneur and a respected community leader.

He was instrumental in founding the Hebrew Academy of San Francisco as well as being a founder and contributing member of Congregation Adath Israel.

He lived honorably and generously, always eager to help those in need, and always ensuring the dignity of those he supported.

He is survived by his wife of

69 years, Annie (Chana) Glass, his daughter Zepporah Glass and son David Glass and his many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed, but the legacy of his generosity and compassion will live.
